I am currently a Senior majoring in Construction Management at the University of Houston. I am originally from Dallas, Texas. I chose to do an internship in construction more so because my course curriculum requires it in order for me to graduate, but the reason i went to a Heavy- Civil Construction Internship is because of my father. My father has worked for many large GC’s such as Zachary, Austin Industries, Sundt, Webber, and Archer Western. I grew up around highway work and airway work. He inspired me to do what i do and he taught me to love it. I wanted the heavy civil field internship in order to learn more about the field and see what I can excel in. I love repairing and rebuilding the infrastructure that society uses throughout their day to day lives. I currently work for Granite Construction Company based out of Watsonville, California. I work on a Dam Project in Houston, Texas which includes two seperate dams Addicks and Barker. These dams control the flooding in houston and were recently on the news during the Hurricane Harvey Storm. We are installing 2 new structures, New cutoff walls, Filter systems, Subdrainage Systems, and Demoing the existing dams once the new ones are complete. We also built a different type of Cofferdam System out of Clay and dirt rather than using Steel Piling.
