All types of construction speak the same language. My name is Moath Mohammed and I am a Construction Engineering Technology student at Louisiana Tech University. My passion for construction started when I was just a little boy, seeing so many new buildings being built and so many “big water hoses”, as I would call them, being put into the ground. As a college student, I want to take advantage of every learning opportunity I can. In my opinion, construction is the foundation of every society. Regardless of what type of construction it is, it all speaks the same language. What I mean by that is, there are so many types of construction like highway construction, mechanical construction, underground construction, etc., and they all have the same general concept. My first summer job was with a small construction company, where we renovated and built small commercial and residential buildings. I loved every aspect of this type of construction. I worked as a laborer for a carpenter. The main critical factors that drove this project, like every project, were the project’s budget, time, and safety. Then, I got into the AGC/NASTT student chapter at Louisiana Tech. Here, we visited many conferences all over the United States learning about underground construction technology. I became so fascinated with this type of construction. In today’s industry for underground construction, there are so many companies competing to bring better horizontal directional drilling (HDD). Pipe installations have evolved from digging a trench and laying a pipe down to pushing a pipe using the HDD technique. CASE (Civil And Structural Engineers) is an engineering and project management firm. Its main clients are large oil field companies. CASE engineers and manages anything from small office buildings to large production plants for drilling fluids. CASE offered me the opportunity to intern with them as a Project Manager. Working with CASE I experienced every aspect of construction from commercial building construction to light industrial construction. Not only did this offer me construction that I have experienced, but this also offered me a chance to learn and experience industrial mechanical construction. Construction is a fascinating industry. It is a career that I love and I am very passionate about. It is a language that I can speak!
