My name is Maxwell Legeay and I am currently a senior at Western Kentucky University studying Construction Management, and exhilarated to graduate in May 2018 (4 years) and to begin my career in the construction industry full time upon graduating! I am originally from Evansville, Indiana and enjoy bowling, watching WKU and Notre Dame football, as well as golfing on a regular basis. Words that would describe me would be driven, goal and task oriented and detail oriented. My internship this past summer was at Traylor Brothers Incorporated which is headquartered in Evansville, Indiana but has various bridge, tunneling, and marine projects around the world and it was an incredible experience to be a part of!
By background, both my grandfathers owned or worked for heavy civil contractors during their construction careers, which in large part influenced me to become extremely compelled and motivated at a young age to work and prosper in the construction industry like they did. From shadowing them when I was younger, they always stressed the importance of being detail oriented and having great communication skills to coordinate the project’s objective.
This was my third internship with three different companies over the past three summers while being a full time student during the fall and spring. I enjoyed this process and I want to further my advancement and knowledge in the many construction techniques and procedures there are, but specifically the Heavy Civil industry in which I had the internship in this past summer and in particular find the most appealing, interesting, and challenging. Additionally, the opportunity of already having prior internships for a heavy civil contactor (Munilla Construction Management, Miami) and a mechanical contractor (Peyronnin, Evansville) helped me gain invaluable knowledge about the industry and has swayed me to pursue work in the Heavy Civil industry upon graduation. By working in three different organizational environments, this has really helped me to understand safety and quality issues in various work situations and the need to be proactive.
Traylor Brothers was a founding member of CIECI (Construction Industry Ethics and Compliance Initiative), which promotes integrity and ethical conduct in the industry, thus the work culture which this created made this internship a memorable experience.
