School: Iowa Central Community College
Major: Diesel technology
Company: Weidemann inc.
Internship Dates: 2016-12-23 — 2017-08-25
I have always had a huge interest in large machinery. I liked working on and around large earth moving equipment.
What results did you achieve on the internship, and how did you exceed the company's expectations for your role?
I learned a lot while interning at the company. For example I learned how to operate many pieces of equipment and I learned how to lay tile and set grade with a rotating laser. I exceeded the company’s expectation by learning quickly and do what I was told. I felt like they trusted me and I think they would say the same.
What did you learn in this internship that will affect your life in a positive way?
I learned how much work it takes to be successful. I learned that being patient and smart about what I’m doin goes a long ways and I also learned how to manage people.
How were you involved with safety and/or quality during your internship, and how did that change your perspective on construction?
I took the lead on some mechanic work that needed to be done on some of the machinery. I learned how safe and precautionary I had to be while removing huge parts from the machinery and how I had to look out for me and some of my coworkers working with me. It made my perspective on construction more clear about the safety that goes on in this industry.
After reviewing www.IBuildAmerica.com, tell us what I Build America means to you?
It means a better America because without people willing to build the things around us things wouldn’t be accomplished.
