My name is Kearstin O’Mara and I am going into my fourth year majoring in Construction Management at the University of Cincinnati in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. I am a first-generation college student and have 3 younger siblings who are 5, 12 and 19 years old. I chose to do an internship in construction because it truly is my passion. When I was younger I would always found myself building “tree houses” in my backyard. These tree houses only consisted of 2×4 planks that I put up between branches with hammer and nails I found in my family’s shed. Looking back, it was extremely dangerous for an 8 year old but hey, girls will be girls. Later in life I found myself taking interior design, AutoCAD and Engineering courses in high school which only furthered my interest in the construction industry. At this time in high school I had been a supervisor at a movie theater for about 2 years and really enjoyed managing. After some late nights of research my senior year of high school, I decided Construction Management would be the perfect major for me, and I would not change that decision even if I could turn back time.
