Cortney Zellman Grubbs
My name is Cortney Zellman Grubbs. I am a wife, a mother, a civil engineering student, and an intern at Teichert Construction. I was fortunate enough to start working in the office of a construction company when I was 17 years old. From that point on, I knew this was the industry for me and got started on my civil engineering degree. Between completing several internships and supporting my family, the road to obtaining my degree has been long and not without complications. With that being said, I would not change any of my experiences for the world. This summer, in particular, has opened a lot of new doors for me as I have been introduced to several new and exciting aspects of construction such as grading and concrete paving. The enthusiasm with which I put on my hard hat is a constant reminder that I am in the right place, doing exactly what I need to be doing.
With multiple construction internships under my belt, I have been able to experience many aspects of construction. While I enjoy being out in the field most, I have spent time in accounts payable, account receivable, payroll, and much more. I have gained an immense amount of knowledge from these experiences which has reinforced the passion I feel for the industry. I know how hard the people behind the curtain work to make our work out in the field a success. I also know how hard the crews out in the field work to complete projects in a safe and efficient manner without sacrificing quality. Everyone has a role to play and all roles are equally important.
