I’ve been doing construction since I was 20. I like what I do and I do what I like. Every night when I’m heading home, I always look back to see what I helped build. The reason I’m so passionate about construction is because it creates such a sense of accomplishment for me. I love being able to visualize a project, construct the project, then enjoy what’s been built. It puts a smile on my face knowing other people acknowledge the great work my company does for the city of Cincinnati.
Knowledge is power. This is my greatest result that I achieved on the internship, knowledge. Before my internship I had very little experience in the construction industry. Over the last year I busted my butt everyday to learn as much as possible about the field I’m pursing for the rest of my life. Everyday I’m blessed to gain power for the industry. My hard work, dedication, and passion for construction is why I earned the opportunity to stay on with my company throughout school, and after.
The best part about my internship is that I learn something new every day. To me, if you didn’t learn anything new all day, then it wasn’t a successful day. Little things like communication, teamwork, or leadership are positive skills I’m always learning about. These little things create such a positive impact on my future because these are skills used daily. In the field I learned many different tools, machines, vocabulary words, safety codes, and ideas that will forever stay with me.
Safety is the number one concern. During my internship I went to several safety conferences all over Ohio. I spend three days in Columbus, Ohio for a safety and workers compensation convention. I provided SDS binders, including 100 different materials, for twenty different crews. Each day I’m reminded about safety and the risks that are involved in construction. After seeing and hearing the daily risks in construction I realize why safety should be the number one priority for all companies.
I Build America means pride and patriotism to me. It means be proud that I’m personally contributing to help construct the greatest country on Earth. Everything that is provided on www.IBuildAmerica.com is such a great inspiration for a young man trying to start a career, like myself. I fully support the ideas and stories shared.
