My name is Brandon Lawrence. I am currently enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering. Since before I can remember, I have been exposed to the construction atmosphere. It all began when I was a child. I have been shown pictures which recall vague memories of myself sitting with my father behind the wheel of an International Loadstar dump truck. I believe that was the first experience which got me hooked on the construction business. Following the experiences in the dump truck came opportunities to ride in a backhoe, dozers and progressively various larger equipment through my teenage years. Following high school, I had decided to become part of the construction business by pursuing a college degree. My first semester in the University of Pittsburgh, as a new transfer student, had provided me the opportunity to interview for various Co-Op (internship) working experiences. At the time I was unsure which company I was to speak to with the hopes of being interviewed. While overwhelmed with the numerous employers and students, I had saw some pictures at a booth which caught my attention. Several construction pictures surrounded the company name “Independence Excavating.” With no hesitation I went to speak to the representatives. I felt my personality greatly matched the line of work the company was performing. Needless to say I was asked to return for an interview which lead to the job offer. This has been one of my greatest decisions since the beginning of college.
