My name is Aaron Martin from Paducah, Ky. I am a student at Murray State University majoring in Construction Engineering Technology. I did not grow up directly involved with or around construction, however I have always been interested in learning how everything works. My mother, Lori Hall, has been the Human Resource Manager for a large heavy highway contractor for 26 years. This gave me an opportunity to see large equipment in the works from a young age. As a teenager I had very physically demanding jobs on the grounds crew for golf courses and hunting clubs, but I always wanted to work on a construction crew. Unlike many people, I have been very blessed in the fact that I have always known what I wanted to do with my life. Construction has always been my thing! From carpentry in high school to building duck blinds, it is what I have always loved. The summer of 2016 following my senior year of high school I had the opportunity to achieve my dream. After 2 years of trying to work for Jim Smith Contracting Co., LLC (the company my mom works for) I was referred to Wilkins Construction (a small concrete subcontractor) and I officially had my first job in construction as a concrete laborer. It was a great experience and it truly taught me what hard work was. I found out that although it is good money, I was way too smart to work as a laborer all of my life. The summer of 2017 I finally got the job I had always wanted…to work for JSCC as an intern. It has been one of my all time learning experiences and it has developed in me a love for construction way deeper than I already had.
