School: Wayne State University
Major: Construction Management
Company: Sundt Construction Inc.
Internship from May 9, 2016 — July 22, 2016
An energetic and passionate construction management graduate student at Wayne State University. I like the constant challenges and rewards the construction industry offers and like to be part of it. With an experience in both design and project management gained by working in both concrete and heavy civil projects, I developed an interest in using technology and connecting it with the conservative construction methods what the industry has to offer.
With a Bachelors in civil engineering I have a solid background in geo-technial engineering and concrete properties.
With all the knowledge I wanted to do an Internship to see how that will come into play with the real life market and technologies. My whole family is a part of a construction industry which is also one of the reasons why I got into construction field.
What results did you achieve on the internship, and how did you exceed the company's expectations for your role?
I was assigned to intern with the concrete operations but I worked with every division in our company leaving the mining division, The internship report document attached to this questionnaire elaborates how I did so. Everyone working with me were happy and the offers came in to work with them in the future confirms that the company is happy with me.
What did you learn in this internship that will affect your life in a positive way?
I learn that not knowing how to work things out is important but to understand how to get things done is important in construction industry, because every project is unique and every time we do the same stuff but in different method.
How were you involved with safety and/or quality during your internship, and how did that change your perspective on construction?
When I started off my internship on the first week we had a session about the company’s safety standards, followed by the site safety standards which I was assigned to work on. This made me feel better about safety and almost every accident can be prevented if we follow those standards that is why we are the safest construction company to work in America.
The day we were pouring concrete on Decks we had a check-post on the site where we check the quality of the concrete in the trucks by taking samples and performing slump cone test, air test and checking the temperature of the concrete and approve the concrete to be used to pour in.
After reviewing www.IBuildAmerica.com, tell us what I Build America means to you?
The website is kind of inspiring for the people in construction industry, The quote “Construction is how we move,
it’s how we live, it’s how America happens.” reminds how important we are to develop the country. It shows all the trending techs in construction which is very important. Ill probably check this site every week to be updated with the industry.
